AHSIE Council Statement

On behalf of the AHSIE Council and our AHSIE Membership, we stand in solidarity with individuals who are protesting police violence and racial injustice throughout the country. As HSI professionals representing the rich diversity of students, staff, and faculty at institutions of higher education, we denounce the racism that is pervasive within our communities as well as the systems that allow such behavior to exist. The events of these past weeks lay bare the systemic failures to protect our black and brown brothers and sisters as they continue to be persecuted, marginalized, and oppressed. We stand with those who feel hopeless and who doubt whether they can make a difference. To effect change, we as a community will continue to be resilient in the face of adversity; we will continue to lead when hope seems lost; and we will continue to inspire each other to rectify the course of history. Ahora más que nunca, sí se puede… sí podemos… así lo haremos.
